Every pet owner should employ a proper flea and tick prevention strategy for their pets. Both fleas and ticks can be a great threat to your pet’s health if left unchecked for a long time.

Bravecto is one of the popular preventative medications recommended by vets. But can you give Bravecto for dogs without vet prescription? We will be answering this question in the post below.

    What is Bravecto?

Bravecto is a preventative medication for fleas and ticks. It uses the active ingredient fluralaner which helps kill bugs on a dog’s body.

This particular medication is available in two forms – chewable tablets and topical liquid. While the tablet provides three months of protection, the topical liquid stays effective for four to six months.

Bravecto can solve a variety of parasite problems in dogs, including fleas, Lonestar ticks, brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, and black-legged ticks.

It can kill all these parasites for 12 or 16 weeks, except Lonestar ticks. For Lonestar ticks, the medication remains effective only for eight weeks.

    Bravecto Dosage

Bravecto is available in five different dosages. The dosage amount required by dogs will vary depending on their size. The good thing is that this medication is suitable for dogs as young as 6 months of age.

Bravecto is a popular medication for dogs. However, it is recommended you consult a vet before you start giving it to your pet. An experienced professional can guide you better with the dosage.

    Are there any side effects?

Before using a medication, you must learn its side effects. After all, you wouldn’t want your dog to suffer.

According to the FDA, Bravecto may have certain side effects, such as gastrointestinal problems and kidney issues. This is why you should always consult a vet before giving this medication to your pet.

If you notice any of the mentioned side effects in your dog, you should contact your vet.

Preventative medication for fleas and ticks for dogs is important for their health. But you must always ask the vet if the medication you are using is right for your dog.
