A dog coat can be the perfect solution if you want to walk in bad weather conditions. It can also be necessary with older dogs or certain dog breeds in order to protect them from the weather. Therefore, when buying a dog coat you first need to look at the kind of dog that you have. Is your dog active, old, of what breed is your dog? Then you can look at the different kinds of dog coats, such as waterproof dog coats, winter coats or even bathrobes for dogs.

    Advice for buying a coat

Every dog has a different need when buying a coat. Especially the age and breed is important. Dogs that are older and dogs that are not used to extreme changes of weather are more likely to need a coat. A dog that is outside a lot all year can adapt a bit to the weather changes. Also, dog breeds that have a single layer of fur and dogs with short fur can get cold sooner than dogs with a double layer of fur. When you know what kind of coat your dog needs, you can have a look at different coats for different seasons. There are dog coats for the winter, for in the autumn and waterproof dog coats for in the rain.

    SizingĀ

When searching for proper waterproof coats, a high neck is important for your dog to be better protected against the rain. It is also very important that the size and fit match your dog’s body. The sizes that need to fit are the back length, body circumference and neck. The back length of waterproof coats differ. When having a slim dog with long legs, you need a coat that has a longer body that covers it from neck to tail. The body of most of the dog coats can be adjusted, but it is still good to check the sizes. Your dog needs to walk comfortably, but some protection around the neck is needed and will prevent your dog from getting cold.

    Waterproof coats

Some breeds just don’t care about walking in the rain. These breeds tend to have the type of fur for being outdoor in wet and cold conditions. In this case, the need for a waterproof dog coat is not always necessary. In extreme weather conditions, however, it can be nice to use a raincoat. Waterproof dog coats are also useful for dogs with a single layer of fur and for fragile dogs.
